Frequently Asked Questions - Afontermo il Nanocappotto®

AFONTERMO IL NANOCAPPOTTO® is a reflective thermal skim coat with anti-mold and anti-condensation properties. Applied in just 4 to 6 millimeters, it replaces the bulky traditional thermal insulation system and provides breathable thermal insulation for your walls. This is made possible by the product’s thermo-reflective properties. Furthermore, AFONTERMO IL NANOCAPPOTTO® offers thermophotocatalytic features that help purify the air and maintain the whiteness of the facades where it is applied.

AFONTERMO®prevents the formation of condensation and the resulting mold. It also insulates beams and pillars, eliminating thermal bridges. By applying just a few millimeters of AFONTERMO®, you can replace bulky external insulation systems, which hinder wall breathability and promote interstitial condensation.AFONTERMO® has a high reflectance (R=80%), helping maintain indoor temperatures and thus saving energy. Furthermore, AFONTERMO® has photocatalytic properties that help keep facades white and purify the surrounding air.

AFONTERMO® is applied on walls affected by condensation and mold, to provide thermal insulation in both new and existing constructions (suitable for energy efficiency upgrades), and as a replacement for traditional thermal insulation systems. AFONTERMO® can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications.

It can be applied using a simple smooth steel trowel (See Application).

AFONTERMO® must not be applied to walls that are wet or prone to moisture. In cases where walls are affected by humidity, NOVOMUR® a dehumidifying plaster—should be used.

AFONTERMO® is available in the following finishes:

Type B Smooth (similar to plaster)
Type B 0.25–0.5 (Civil finish with grain size comparable to fine sand)
Type B 0.5–1 (Civil finish– coarse sandblasted style)
Type A 1–2 (substrate layer - rustic finish)
Type C 2–4 (Substrate layer)

See the finishes.

AFONTERMO® must not be applied over washable paint indoors; this paint should be completely removed beforehand. For outdoor applications, any siloxane paint must be removed before applying AFONTERMO® .

AFONTERMO® must not be applied on washable paints. Therefore, it can only be used after the existing paint has been removed and our primer has been applied.

AFONTERMO IL NANOCAPPOTTO® must be applied after the application of AFON CASA’s water-based primer, which is breathable and non-film-forming.

Afonrete mesh is used for outdoor AFONTERMO®Type A CORAZZATO applications with thicknesses greater than 6 mm.

No, it is preferable to use AFONTERMO IL NANOCAPPOTTO® on the intrados (underside) of the horizontal opaque element.

Only THERMOPITTURA AFON CASA should be used. (Find out more)

AFONTERMO® does not cause respiratory issues or allergies because it is a natural, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic product, as indicated in its health and safety certificate.

Reflectance is the ratio between the amount of thermal wave reflected by a material and the amount of thermal wave that strikes it. The portion of thermal wave not reflected is absorbed in accordance with the value 1–R. A reflective material tends to absorb only the amount equal to 1–R due to its low-emissivity behavior; hence, its contribution to thermal insulation is significantly higher. This is why 4–6 mm of AFONTERMO® can replace 13–14 cm of traditional thermal insulation.
